Wedding trends to watch in 2018

We’re keeping a keen eye on the upcoming trends – after all, we take great pride in our reputation as the finest of all wedding venues in the Cotswolds. We may have said goodbye to 2017 not long ago, but Wedding Manager Elizabeth Lane is already looking to the year ahead and all that 2018 has to offer by way of wedding trends.

Floral Displays & Palettes

Floral displays never go out of style, and this year they are going to further gain popularity. We are seeing lots of big floral hanging displays in the De La Bere space here at Ellenborough and regarding colour palettes, 2018 is leaning towards Pantone’s Ultra Violet purple thanks to it being named colour of the year.

If you need inspiration for your flowers, then our sweeping grounds make us one of the more well-appointed wedding venues; in Cheltenham there is a plentiful supply of florists and beautiful flowers – think of timeless lavender, delicate purple orchids, tranquil tulips, light larkspur or perhaps the darker hues of dianthus and carnations. Donna of The Flower Studio is an expert at creating beautiful pieces and bouquets – she is behind all of the flowers around the hotel and the perfect choice for enhancing your wedding.

Drink Stations

Some forward-thinking couples are moving away from bar spaces and table service – they are setting up customised stations where guests can help themselves to a drink or receive one from a member of staff. With many font choices, colours, textures and designs to choose from, gin and tonic stations are all the rage.

The spirit is showing no signs of slowing down and has received wide acclaim in 2017. For the warmer months, we’re certain pink gin will be making an appearance quite regularly in cocktails. For couples seeking a classic touch, you can avoid the adventurous flavours and opt for the good old-fashioned serving with tonic. Created with Cotswold Distillery, Ellenborough Park’s own gin features a blend of spices that evoke the first Earl of Ellenborough and his connection to India – you can further add a personal touch to your gin station by allowing us to create custom cocktails and name your drinks for the happy couple.

Pre-wedding Entertainment

Pre-wedding entertainment is going to be exceedingly popular in 2018 – think the likes of laser shooting for groomsmen and the bridal party using the spa to catch up, plan and unwind.

All this can be done in addition to stag and hen parties, meaning that your celebrations can go on as long as you would like them to. Other ideas include golf days, cocktail making parties or even trips to the theatre. 2018 is sure to see weddings become an extended celebratory affair.

Post-wedding activities

Some guests may feel slightly delicate the morning after, but we have seen an increase in enquiries for parties wishing to use our Boot Room the day after the wedding.

With wellingtons available to borrow in various sizes, you can organise a big walk around the estate to blow away the cobwebs. We even have a Rambling Adventure package. For a more daring post-wedding activity, after-parties are set to be huge but could also be as timid as a few more drinks! If you tie the knot during the summer, then a pool party is the perfect way to relax after your special day; you can use our pool to relax and enjoy a cocktail.

Exclusivity is key

The biggest trend of 2018 so far is the bride and groom wishing to use the whole venue exclusively. This way, couples can utilise the beautiful spaces in the main house such as the Great Hall and decorate however they see fit for a truly unique event.

Perfect for lavish gestures and bespoke photographs, exclusive use grants couples the opportunity to become even more a part of Ellenborough’s history by calling the house their own for the duration of their celebrations. Thanks to our 61 rooms and suites, everyone that the couple cares for can join them and experience the luxury for themselves.

We hope our wedding trends have helped to inform your wedding planning. If you are considering wedding venues in the Cotswolds, why not speak with our expert Wedding Team? Please call or contact us – in the meantime, you can download our brochure here.
