An Impromptu Weekend Getaway in the Cotswolds

Sometimes, a last-minute getaway can be just as (if not more) enjoyable than a much anticipated and planned break. Our hotel in the Cotswolds is the perfect place to experience the countryside and embrace the idyllic aura of the region. In our latest blog, we share how to have an unforgettable impromptu weekend getaway in the Cotswolds.

Friday Afternoon

Our beautiful hotel sits between the two villages of Southam and Prestbury. You can reach Ellenborough Park very easily; if you are arriving via car, you can enter Southam Road, Cheltenham, Gloucestershire GL52 3NJ into your satellite navigation. If you are joining us by train the nearest station is Cheltenham Spa which is 5 miles away and approximately 13 minutes away by taxi. By air you will require the following GPS location: Latitude and Longitude 51°55’30.67”N, 2°02’38.96”W. Don’t forget to obtain landing permission prior to arrival!

You can check into one of our one of our luxurious hotel rooms any time after 3pm, meaning you have plenty of time to explore Ellenborough’s 15th century country estate and settle into your room. Before you rest after your journey, why not enjoy a spot of traditional and very British Afternoon Tea? Be sure to ask reception about any upcoming local events that will be taking place during your stay.

Friday Evening

Once settled, we recommend making a dinner reservation in The Restaurant. Extremely popular with guests and locals, you can enjoy dishes that are brimming with modern British influence and sample exciting cuisine. As it is your first night in the Cotswolds, what could be more pleasant than exploring the hotel? Make the most of your new environment and should the weather permit, take a stroll around our beautiful grounds. Conversation, relaxed evenings and fine dining – we can’t think of anything better, unless you round off your pleasant first night toasting in the Horse Box bar.

Saturday Morning

Our kitchen team will have prepared a fine spread of continental for you to enjoy, or order off the a la carte menu. Once full, we recommend heading to Sudeley Castle (only 15 minutes by car) to wander amongst the wonderful gardens and to see if you can spot the resident peacock. Learn all about the history and heritage of this 15th century castle as you enjoy some breath-taking sights and appreciate the architecture. An interesting fact; Catherine Parr, the sixth wife of Henry VIII is buried in the grounds. To further spend the day being charmed by the Cotswolds, Cleeve Hill is directly opposite hotel and offers beautiful views as you walk above Cheltenham. Forgot your walking boots? Head to our boot room to borrow a pair of Dubarry Boots or Hunter Wellingtons.

Saturday Afternoon

End the day right with one of our opulent spa treatments after a day of exploration. Restore tired limbs with treatments that include massages and facials through to full body scrubs and beauty treatments. Our expert therapists are on-hand to ensure your retreat is as blissful as it is invigorating. If pampering is high on your agenda, rest assured that we offer some of the finest spa breaks in the Cotswolds and can tailor your impromptu getaway to encapsulate exactly what you need.

Saturday Evening

We always enjoy discovering a new dish from our menu, so you’d be forgiven for making another reservation for dinner in The Restaurant! If you prefer a change of scenery, grab a bite to eat wherever your adventure leads you in the Cotswolds. Popular eateries include Le Champignon Sauvage, Kibou Sushi and Prithvi. Venture into Cheltenham town centre and you will stumble across many bars and cocktail establishments such as Soho and Bar 50. Don’t forget to end the evening with a night cap at Ellenborough before retiring to your room.

Sunday Morning

Check out is 11am, so why not order breakfast to your room or suite? Locally sourced, our breakfasts are sure to set you up for the day. As it is your last day, we definitely recommend stopping by Broadway to see the tower and partake in a spot of shopping – it’s one of the most popular villages in the area.

Sunday Afternoon

This isn’t farewell, merely ‘until next time.’ Before you journey back home, join us for lunch, perhaps  our popular Sunday roast, in the Horse Box.
