As the only 5-star hotel Cheltenham has to offer, we take great pride in the upkeep of our beautiful 15th century country estate. Ellenborough Park opened in 2011 and now in our seventh year, we started an extensive refurbishment in September that aimed to not only rejuvenate the property, but delight our guests.
To keep our hotel at the exquisite standard that our guests expect, we have modernised and restored our public areas. As one of the most decadent hotels in Cheltenham we understand that such restoration may strike many as juxtaposing, but here at Ellenborough Park we want to keep all modernisation in keeping with our history and heritage.
Our service is what makes us stand out. It goes without saying that the love for the hotel from our guests has directly influenced our refurbishment plans. From the moment you pass through our gates and follow the sweeping drive, there’s no feeling more distinct than knowing you are arriving at Ellenborough Park. Beyond the trees and Cotswold countryside, you are rewarded with views of Cheltenham Racecourse. As part of our refurbishment, this is where your journey first changes.
As you pull up to the front door, you will now notice the repositioning of our entrance. This was done to ensure a more convenient entry for guests and positively influences the flow of the interior of the hotel. Greeted by one of our friendly porters, you will be accompanied through to reception where you will check in. Our front of house team will welcome you with an enthusiasm and attentiveness that is indicative of what’s to come at Ellenborough Park. And now, for the first time, if you glance behind you a corridor created by the glass screen in the Great Hall will draw your eye out to the front door.
The inception of our new front door and glass screen between the entrance corridor and the Great Hall, perfectly demonstrates how to strike the right balance between modernisation and restoration. Guests are now immediately greeted with the dominant and awe-inspiring Great Hall. Exactly what visitors would have expected to experience 500 years ago.
Our previous reception has transformed into the Atrium; a relaxing place to wait and enjoy refreshments prior to check in. Contemporary, adaptable and comfortable, the overall design of this space is striking and highlights our new pop-out cocktail bar.
This revitalised and relaxed bar area features our extensive beverage range including our very own Ellenborough Park gin.
The Horse Box & The Restaurant
Another new feature is The Horse Box. What was ‘The Brasserie’ has now been reinvented in the style of a 5-star country pub. We’re very excited to now have a dining option that is open to those visiting with their dogs. The Horsebox is the perfect pit stop after a long walk in the countryside, we’re open 7 days a week to the public, so drop in anytime.
For those seeking something really special, the final reveal is our brand new restaurant and it has certainly been worth the wait. Accessible and flexible, our style of dining fully embraces the needs of our guests and brings Ellenborough Park into the 21st Century, without compromising on our reputation of a luxurious home-away-from-home hotel.
Combining three main rooms, the new restaurant will flow seamlessly and allow for a touch of theatricality alongside your table service.
With an exciting new menu that is broad in its offering but maintains a focus on local provenance and ingredients, your new dining experience at Ellenborough Park will showcase the best of the Cotswolds and Great Britain.
We are very excited about the new lease of life this refurbishment has brought, as well as having been able to complement this beautiful and historic house.
We look forward to welcoming you to Ellenborough Park so you can see the full refurbishment in all its glory.
