6 Ways to Enjoy Christmas in the Cotswolds

Are you looking forward to getting into the festive spirit? The Cotswolds is beautiful all year round, though it truly transforms into something spectacular at Christmas. Our latest post offers a few suggestions for how to have a fabulous Christmas in the Cotswolds; from awe-inspiring light displays to shopping destinations and German markets, read on for our team’s favourites.

Sudeley Spectacle of Light

Experience the grandeur of Sudeley Castle with all the fantastical elements you need to make the season sparkle. The Spectacle of Light is an illuminated trail that will lead you around the castle’s grounds and gardens. From the enormous trees to specially constructed awnings, you can see the stars and the vast collection of lanterns and fairy lights. Hot chocolate, mulled wine and festive treats are available, and with this year’s theme of Alice in Wonderland visitors won’t want to be late for this very important date; you can see the lights for yourself from the 8th to the 30th December. Perfect for families, couples or friends, you’ll want to bring your camera along that’s for sure.

Cheltenham Christmas Market

From 22nd November to the 15th December, the Cheltenham Christmas Market will be in full swing. With 40 stalls and wooden chalets this year that instantly evoke memories of seasons past, you can shop for yourself, for your loved ones or with 2019 in mind. There’s something for everyone thanks to the varied offering of craft stalls, seasonal food, drink and gifts.

Late Night Shopping

Whether you are a late-night shopper or a last-minute panic buyer, Cheltenham’s retail hot spots will be open for longer than usual. The main shopping centre, Regent Arcade, will be open for Christmas late night shopping every Thursday from 9am to 8pm. In the week running up to Christmas, the opening times alter slightly – 9am to 7pm. The town centre is perfect ticking off Santa’s list. Don’t forget to take some time for yourself with a warming coffee or a moment to appreciate the heritage and architecture around you. The town centre also operates extended hours each Thursday, with many shops staying open later in the week prior to Christmas day. There have also been rumours of an outdoor ice skating rink…we’re keeping our fingers crossed!

Race Meets

We’re just a stone’s throw away from Cheltenham racecourse, so what better way is there to enjoy the Christmas cheer than by watching The International and the finale of the Crystal Cup? Set to be bursting with festive flair and real competition, this is a unique setting in which to have some fun in the run up to Christmas. Not only can you expect top-class jump racing, there will also be a shopping village offering stalls, gifts and drinks.

Festive Afternoon Tea

Available from the 19th November until the 29th December, catch up, reminisce or plan the year ahead with those who mean the most to you. Our Festive Afternoon Tea is a real delight and can be taken Monday to Sunday between 3pm and 5pm.
